The President of the Provincial Council welcomes the organisers and participants of the Lifesaving European Championship by Nations to Castellón

The Provincial Council is contributing 50,000 euros to the celebration of this sporting event, which will involve the arrival of around five hundred people, including participants and accompanying persons

The President of the Provincial Council, José Martí, and the Deputy for Sports, Tania Baños, have officially received the First Vice-President of the Royal Spanish Lifesaving Federation, Jesús Troyano, six members of the technical team of the organisation and 24 athletes on the occasion of the celebration in Castellón of the Lifesaving European Championship by Nations, open and youth, between the 12th and 18th of September.

The competition, which the Provincial Council is subsidising with 50,000 euros, will bring together fifteen senior national teams and eleven youth and will take place in the Olympic swimming pool and the Gurugú beach in the capital of La Plana, which will attract around 500 people, of which around 300 will be participants.

With the logical restrictions of capacity that pandemic entails, it has been an act organised as a welcome, in which the president Martí has wished all the participants “a happy stay in Castelló“.

A sport that radiates values

Lifesaving is a discipline in which the teams are made up of a maximum of six men and six women, thus guaranteeing equal participation. It is a sport that saves lives and promotes and radiates values such as companionship and solidarity, and it takes place both in swimming pools and in the sea. It requires optimal physical preparation, strength, endurance, speed, individual skills and the ability to work as a team and to follow a good strategy.

For the president of the Provincial Council, José Martí, the holding of this championship in Castellón is “very good news” because “citizens are eager for things to happen, positive things, after so many months of restrictions with the pandemic”.

He also expressed his hope that the participants and those accompanying them in the competition would enjoy their stay in the province and become messengers of the hospitality of the people of Castellón”. 8/9/21 Source: Castellón Provincial Council
